A chance at improvement
The incident at the Hellenic Air Force’s 111th Combat Wing base, where a recent wildfire led to explosions at an ammunition depot, should trigger a thorough review of the protocols in all the facilities of the Armed Forces, as the ongoing climate crisis demands.
That is why this incident should not lead to the usual bureaucratic avoidance of responsibility and cover-ups. Instead, a new safety culture is needed at all levels of the military.
