SOPHOCLES VENIZELOS: Yesterday’s proposals by the leader of the Liberal Democratic Union, Mr Sophocles Venizelos, regarding a two-week postponement of the elections and establishing a simple proportional electoral system by decree, have been rejected by the prime minister, Mr Constantine Karamanlis, as unconstitutional. The elections will be held without fail on February 19 with the present electoral system. GEORGE PAPANDREOU: The leader of the Liberal Party, Mr George Papandreou, was yesterday nominated leader of the Front with the Left, which the leader of the People’s Party, Mr Constantine Tsaldaris, has also joined. WOMEN’S VOTES: Mrs Lina Tsaldari made the following statement yesterday: «In the next elections Greek women will have the opportunity to exercise their right to vote and stand for election… I have accepted the invitation of the leader of te National Radical Union (ERE) to join the party’s list of candidates for Athens.» (Ed. note: Greek women in certain central districts of Athens were first given the vote in the municipal elections of 1934.)
