The state must protect public health

There are some things in Greece that continue to amaze me: If government health inspectors are denied entry anywhere, that facility is closed. No talk, no negotiations, it is simply closed – forever, if that is how long it takes to gain entry. We are talking about the government’s responsibility to protect the health of its citizens, and there is no excuse for what happened at the Varvakeios meat market. The market must be shut down and it must be made clear that another incident of this type will cause the permanent closure of the Varvakeios Market. LES GROVE, Glyfada.
