Greek basketball’s troika leads the way

Three teams, Panathinaikos, Olympiakos and Kolossos Rhodes stayed on the top of the Basket League table after their weekend victories, while Maroussi edged closer to relegation.

Panathinaikos thrashed Panionios 89-69 on Sunday for its 10th win in 11 games, while Olympiakos dismissed host Kavala 82-63 and Kolossos defeated Peristeri 66-46 away.

All this makes the forthcoming January 11 match between Kolossos and Panathinaikos on Rhodes ever more interesting.

Newly-promoted KAO Dramas scored the win of the weekend, beating Maroussi 75-74 in Athens to all but secure its survival after a game that was not for the faint-hearted.

AGO Rethymnou came from behind to beat Aris 88-83 coming closer to a top-eight finish, while PAOK stayed fifth with an 81-76 victory over troubled Ikaros Kallitheas.
