OLP to build four new hotels

The creation of up to four hotels within the zone of Piraeus port forms part of the master plan conditionally approved by the Council of State.

Two of the hotels, one four- and one five-star, are planned after the warehouses (known as the “small” and the “big,” located next to the old transit grain warehouses) are first converted into buildings suitable for hotel development. These two units are also the first that are expected to proceed. A third hotel is planned to be developed in the so-called “Pagoda” on Akti Miaouli, after works are carried out to preserve its roof, which has been classified as a listed building. This building was constructed in the 1960s, with the aim of safely hosting the ocean liners of the time.

The fourth hotel is planned to be located in the Porto Leone area, on the south side of the port, where the new pier for cruise ships will be created, and will have a low height so as not to alter the view to the sea.

This plan was formulated in 2018-19 and included in the optional investments of Piraeus Port Authority owner Cosco Shipping as part of its commitments after obtaining 51% and now more than 67% of the listed concessionaire’s share capital.
