Greek, Indian FMs meet to strengthen ties, bolster cooperation

As part of an ongoing effort to upgrade relations between Greece and India, Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias received his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Athens on Saturday.

It was the first exchange of visits between the foreign ministers of the two countries in 18 years, and is seen paving the way for the consolidation and upgrading of relations between Greece and India in a number of areas of common interest, the Greek Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Energy policy cooperation was among a wide range of topics discussed. Tellingly, Greece is set to become a member of an Indian initiative to promote solar energy, the International Solar Alliance (ISA), with the signing of the framework agreement by Dendias.

On Saturday evening, the two ministers were scheduled to unveil Mahatma Gandhi’s statue near the Indian Embassy in Athens.
