Eight Germans rescued from sinking sailing boat off Naxos

Eight German passengers of a Greek-flagged sailing boat that sank on Wednesday off the southwestern coast of Naxos were rescued by a ferry sailing nearby.

The passengers were initially collected by the “Aikaterini P” ferry and were due to be transferred to Naxos main port onboard a Hellenic Coast Guard vessel which arrived later in the area.

It was not clear why the sailing boat sank.
