Parades cancelled in Lesvos as Covid infections rise

The eastern Aegean island of Lesvos will not be holding its customary school parades on Monday, marking its independence from Ottoman rule on November 8, 1912.

The decision to cancel the annual parades and other celebrations that had been scheduled over the weekend was taken last week by civil defense, regional and municipal authorities in response to the recent spike in coronavirus cases.
