Thousands of pupils left without school bus

Children around Greece are again facing problems in getting to school, more than a month into the academic year.

Tenders for routes have been declared inconclusive while free public transport for students has not been guaranteed. These problems are affecting Attica, Thessaloniki and remote areas. Some children have even been forced to move to the town where their school is.

“Thousands of parents and students of music, art and model/experimental schools, who are theoretically entitled to transportation, are suffering daily,” said the Federation of Parents and Guardians of Attica. “Parents are forced to cover the transport of their children and are also burdened financially due to increases in fuel prices. Pupils wait for hours for the bus, and then are crowded onto public transport. Some children are even forced to walk miles to get to their school and many parents are paying out of pocket for taxis,” it added.
