First afternoon surgery to be held next Tuesday, minister says
The first afternoon surgery will be held on March 12 at Papageorgiou Hospital in Thessaloniki, Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis said in an interview with Skai TV on Thursday.
The introduction of afternoon operations aims at speeding up services to patients on waiting lists and is expected to increase afternoon operations by at least 20%, while also making the position of surgeon and anesthesiologist in the ESY more attractive.
“I am very proud and very happy that on Tuesday, at about 4-5 p.m., Deputy Health Minister Marios Themistokleous and I will be at Papageorgiou Hospital where the first afternoon surgery will be carried out,” Georgiadis said, adding that the specific hospital has the longest waiting lists in Greece.
Georgiadis also added that afternoon surgeries will also start at Evangelismos Hospital in Athens and in many other hospitals next week.
