Police apprehend dozens during Patras Carnival security measures
Heightened security measures are underway at the carnival celebration in the city of Patras, northern Peloponnese, with continuous police checks aimed at preventing thefts, drug trafficking and combating smuggling.
On the first day of Carnival festivities, police conducted 1,052 checks, resulting in the apprehension of 124 individuals, 43 of whom were eventually arrested. Specifically, 30 were arrested for drug possession, six for outdoor trafficking without proper permits, five for weapons and fireworks law violations, one for theft and one for traffic violations.
Police checks in Patras and traffic measures on road networks for the safe arrival and departure of visitors continue on Sunday and Monday.
