Perperoglou keeps PAO on top

Stratos Perperoglou led Panathinaikos to victory at the top-of-the-table clash with Kolossos on Rhodes, but the big story of the last round of games for the first half of the Basket League on Wednesday was the scare Ilisiakos gave Olympiakos in Piraeus.

The Zografou club was leading the Reds at the Peace and Friendship Stadium by as many as 18 points late in the first half (44-27), but it could not sustain its lead in the second half and lost to the favorite by four points (77-73).

Panathiniakos had comeback kid Perperoglou to thank for his 17 points and seven rebounds in its 81-71 win at Kolossos that saw the Greens finish the first half of the league on top, level on point with Olympiakos but with a better head-to-head record.

Panionios remained in fourth after an emphatic 87-64 win over Kavala at home, leading fifth-placed AGO Rethymnou by one point. The Cretan club returned from Drama with a 79-67 victory over local club KAOD.

Ikaros all but condemned Maroussi to relegation as the Kallithea team defeated its winless opponent 82-70 at home.

Aris rose to sixth thanks to its 71-66 home win over Peristeri in a very entertaining game at Thessaloniki.
