Inheritance tax goes online

The online submission of inheritance tax statements started on Wednesday. Beneficiaries no longer have to queue up at the tax office, as they can complete the process in a few minutes through the online application. However, there are also cases for which debtors should still go to the tax office, such as when the inheritance concerns a property outside the objective values system.

According to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) decision, declarations are submitted digitally through the myPROPERTY app (myproperty.aade.gov.gr) for deaths from January 1, 2022 onward. The initial inheritance tax declarations are optionally submitted through the application, while amending ones can be submitted optionally from December 1. However, from January 1 it will be mandatory to submit all inheritance tax statements online.

Upon submission, the corresponding tax is issued, notifying the debtor. If a deed of acceptance of inheritance is drawn up, the notary must register its details and attach it to the application within 15 working days. The competent tax office is informed electronically and checks the accuracy of declarations within 60 days.
