ATHEX: Week adds 1% to main bourse index

Greek stocks closed their second consecutive week of growth on Friday, approaching the year’s highs, though the session offered negligible gains to the main index and the rising stocks outnumbered the losers by the smallest of margins. The consolidation of the benchmark above the 1,100-point level can be attributed to market certainty about the outcome of the elections that could bring the long-awaited investment grade for the Greek economy.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,122.75 points, adding just 0.03% to Thursday’s 1,122.41 points. On a weekly basis it advanced 1.04%.

The large-cap FTSE-25 index contracted 0.11% to end at 2,734.77 points, though mid-caps expanded 0.41%.

The banks index conceded 0.80%, as Eurobank dropped 2.66% and National eased 0.27%, while Alpha grabbed 0.72%. Ellaktor collected 2.69% and Mytilineos grew 2.61%, just as Helleniq Energy lost 2.17%.

In total 43 stocks posted gains, 42 suffered losses and 27 remained unchanged. Turnover amounted to €78.6 million euros, up from Thursday’s €72.8 million.

In Nicosia, the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange increased 0.95% to 109.16 points.
