Climber falls to his death in southern Crete

A 38-year-old climber fell to his death on Tuesday morning while attempting to cross a canyon in southern Crete.

The man, a Greek national, was among a group of climbers exploring Agiofarango when he fell onto the rocks below from a great height, a local news website reported. It was not clear what caused the fall.

He was evacuated with a private boat and taken to Mira Health Center where doctors confirmed his passing.

According to the deputy mayor of civil protection of the municipality of Phaistos, Antonis Konstantoulakis, Agiofarango is popular with climbers who use ropes and straps to cross from one side of the canyon to the other.
